Put the Cell Phone Down and Keep Your Eyes on the Road!

It seems like it's almost impossible for us to put our cell phones down these days, but there's a new law that went into effect at the start of the year that's aimed at reducing the number of distracted drivers on our roadways.

In the state of California, drivers are no longer allowed to use a handheld wireless phone or wireless electronic device, unless the device is mounted on the vehicle windshield or dashboard in a way that doesn’t hinder the driver’s view of the road. Drivers are only allowed to activate or deactivate a feature or function on the device with a single swipe or tap and cannot do that while holding the device. This expands on a law that already bans texting while driving. For details on AB-1785, click on the link below:

So, I want to know... what do you think about this new law? Do you think it will help protect you and your loved ones while on or near the road? Do you often get irritated when you notice drivers paying more attention to their phones than their driving? Do you think drivers will keep doing what they were doing before, even though they're now breaking the law? Let's start a discussion.

  1. I'm grateful that I drive a lot less now than I did in the past. I don't believe in annoying people with my car horn but, if I see a distracted driver not paying attention because they are voice communicating or texting while driving, I will definitely consider laying my horn on them to interrupt their conversation with someone that is not even in their car.
